Amla ki Sabzi (Goose Berry)

Amla Ki Sabzi is very healthy and easy to make. It is made with a few ingredients easily available in the kitchen. Amla ki Sabzi (Goose Berry) is flavoured with an interesting mix of spices. I have used ajwain (carom seeds) and pepper which also adds to lift up the health quotient of this dish.

Try making this Amla ki Sabzi (Goose Berry). This is the easiest it can be as no preparation is required. There is no chopping or grating of vegetables. This is a sattvic recipe without onion and garlic and very light on spices.

Health Benefits of Amla

Amla also is known as Indian Gooseberry is a fruit which is a superfood. It is a great source of Vitamin C  and enriched with iron, carotene, chromium and fibre along with antibacterial properties, it is excellent for maintaining healthy hair, boosting eyesight and ensuring smooth digestion. It also aids in strengthening immunity, detoxing the liver, keeping cholesterol in check, treating diabetes, aids digestion, prevents heart diseases, acts as a diuretic and improves hair growth.

Amla is a sour and astringent berry. This fruit can be used fresh as well as dried as it is not available fresh all-round the year. You can enjoy Amla in many ways in the form of juice, Amla Murabba, raw with salt and pepper, in the form of Chutney, Achaar (pickle), Sabzi and Candies.

Ingredients for Amla ki Sabzi

200 grams amla (gooseberry)
2 teaspoon oil
1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper powder 

Directions for Amla ki Sabzi

  • Wash and pat dry the amla.
  • Heat oil in a small pan; add carom seeds, amla and saute for few seconds.
  • Add salt, stir, cover and cook for 10 minutes while stirring once in a while so that the amla is cooked evenly.
  • Now put the heat on low; press each amla with the back of the spoon so that it opens up. Remove the seeds.
  • Add coriander and pepper powder and saute till the amlas are well coated and roasted.
  • Serve as a side with any meal.
