This recipe is made using handful of ingredients easily available in the pantry. I have made this dish especially for Navratri. Dahi wale paneer ki sabzi is a satvik / falahari dish very good for vrat and upvas days. This dish fulfuills your requirement for protein during Navratri as we fast for 8 to 9 days with limited vegetables and no legumes and dals.

Dahi Paneer Ki Sabzi (Cottage Cheese In Yogurt Gravy) is a super easy dish that comes together within 30 minutes. This delicious dish is basically paneer cooked in a tangy and savory yogurt-based curry. If you want to make this dish on other than fasting days and you love garlic it is very easy to modify this recipe. Just add ginger garlic paste instead of ginger. Tips for making delicious Dahi Paneer

  • Marinate the paneer for at least 15 minutes.
  • Roasting the spices will enhance the flavor of the dish.
  • Be generous with the use of coriander leaves.
  • You can add 1 tablespoon of cream to make this dish richer.

Ingredients for Dahi Paneer ki Sabzi

400 grams paneer (cottage cheese)
1+1 tablespoon ghee
2 dry red chillies
1 teaspoon ginger chopped
½ cup thick yogurt (dahi)
1 tablespoon cashew/melon seed paste
1 teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon coriander chopped fine

For the marinade
1 teaspoon ghee/oil
¼ teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder

1 tablespoon mint leaves chopped fine
1 tablespoon coriander chopped fine
½ teaspoon coriander powder
¼ teaspoon salt

For the spice mix
2 black/green cardamoms

2 cloves
1 tablespoon  coriander seeds
2 dry red chilli’s

Direction for Dahi Paneer ki Sabzi

  • Dice the paneer in the desired size.
  • In a bowl add all the ingredients for the marinade and mix. Add the paneer pieces and toss well to coat all the pieces well. Set aside for 20 minutes.
  • Roast lightly all the ingredients for the spice mix. Cool and grind.
  • In a bowl mix dahi, cashew paste and spice mix.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan, add the paneer and shallow fry for 2 to 3 minutes until just turning pink. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Add 1 tablespoon ghee to the same pan; add ginger, dry red chillis, chopped coriander and sauté for few seconds.
  • Add add the curd mixture and sauté till oil starts to realises.
  • Add salt, sugar, paneer and toss
  • Add 1/2 cup water and give a stir. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Switch off the heat.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and mint.
  • Enjoy!
