Crunchy Taco Shells (Homemade) is excellent when made at home. These are commonly made in every Mexican household. This recipe is super easy and simple but the results are amazing. You get uniformly made Crunchy Tacos everytime.

These Crunchy Tacos are completely homemade with few kitchen ingredients. Even the tortilla’s are homemade with maize flour and maida(plain flour). The technique is very simple and easy. By pressing the fried tortilla on the rolling-pin with the help of a kitchen towel, you get a U-shaped crunchy tacos.

Ingredients for Crunchy Tacos

1 cup maize flour
1/2 cup plain flour (maida)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 cup warm water
Oil for frying

Directions for Crunchy Tacos

  • In a bowl add cornmeal, plain flour, salt, baking powder, oil and give a good mix.
  • Add warm water gradually to make a soft dough. (Add more water if required). Knead well.
  • Cover with a wet napkin and set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan on medium heat to fry the tortilla.
  • Now divide the dough into four equal portions and make balls.
  • With the help of plain flour (maida), roll a ball into a big thin tortilla.
  • Cut rounds with a cutter. Prick each tortilla round with a fork. This will prevent it from inflating. 
  • Deep fry in oil, for 15 seconds and then flip and fry.
  • Keep on a kitchen towel and place a rolling pin on the tortilla immediately. With your hand press the tortilla against the rolling pin to give U shape to the taco shell. This process should be done real fast otherwise the taco will break.
  • Cool and store in an airtight container.
