Jeera Fried Rice

Jeera Fried Rice is a flavorsome dish. This simple and easy to make rice dish is very popular in North Indian cuisine. To make jeera rice you don’t have to be an expert cook, can be made by  anyone and enjoy without any effort. This dish is a must in the menu of any Indian restaurant.

Jeera Rice or Jeera Pulao is made with few ingredients easily available in any pantry. The preparation of this fried rice can be made with Basmati long grain rice or even with other small grain rice. Jeera (cumin) is the main spice for preparing this rice dish. Jeera rice is very adaptable and can be served with any main dish.

Ingredients For Jeera Fried Rice

1 cup basmati rice
2 cardamoms
4 cloves
2 bay (Tej) leaves
1 mace
1 teaspoon jeera
1 medium onion thinly sliced
1 green chilli
2 tablespoon ghee
2 cups water
Salt to taste

Directions For Jeera Fried Rice

  • Wash the rice well and drain the water and set aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add jeera, all the masala and saute for few seconds.
  • Add chilli and onion. Saute till onions turn brown.
  • Now add in the rice and saute for 2 minutes tacking care not to break the rice grains.
  • Add in the water and salt. Give a good stir and cover the top of the pan with a lid.
  • Cook the rice till all the water is absorbed and rice is cooked. Let it rest for 5 minutes covered.
  • Fragrant jeera rice is ready to be served.
